Summary of 2.0

These lessons have shown me that there are many applications for libraries to explore which will amaze and delight our users.
My most favorite discoveries were the image resources. I have had a digital camera for a few
years now and never tried to load my pictures onto my computer. Now I feel confident in trying this and might even load some pictures onto Flickr.
Working in a library I feel like I practice lifelong learning everyday, but this program has opened up a whole new world of Internet tools that will be helpful to me and library users.
Besides learning about all the cool stuff that you can do on the Internet, I told a friend (who does not work in a library setting) about my blog and now she wants to create her own blog and possibly try some of the 2.0 lessons. The fact that I knew something about the Internet that she did not know (and she's pretty Internet savvy) was an unexpected surprise!
I would like to continue the follow-up lessons so that I can become an Internet guru (like LB, BS & MM)--as if...!

eBooks

I can't wait to get my MP3 player! I've already chosen several titles I'd like to listen to. I was somewhat disappointed that there weren't more titles covering African-American fiction, though.

Podcasts

It was interesting to see and listen to the wide variety of podcasts out there on the Internet. I choose the podcast "Cruise News" to add to my Bloglines account so that I can receive tips and hints about cruising.
Creating library book review podcasts to share with patrons would be a way to market one of our best products. Podcasts could be developed to share computer hints/tips for patrons and so on....

YouTube

YouTube was a fun site to visit! Anyone can post a video about anything-and they do. I choose a video related to cruising. Imagine that! Libraries could use this site to posts training videos, videos of programs, tours, etc.

Web 2.0 Awards

I first went to the category "fun stuff" and found "cocktail builder". This site will tell you what kinds of drinks you can create with the alcohol you have on hand. It also gives you the ingredients of a particular mixed drink you want to make. Boy, will this site come in handy after a long day at work!

the other site I explored was under the category "health". Medstory is a searh engine that provides info on medical conditions. For a given medical condition, you can find a description, relevant drugs, procedures, clinical trials, personal accounts, etc. It even gives suggestions for refining one's search for better results. Neat! This would b great site for patrons

Zohowriter

This is just like using Word! Documents can be created, saved, accessed and shared by anyone you choose to share them with, on any computer. Fantastic! And it offers a wide selection of editing tools too! The fact that others can edit, add text, etc., adds a collaborative element to creating documents that could be very useful for libraries.
