These lessons have shown me that there are many applications for libraries to explore which will amaze and delight our users.
My most favorite discoveries were the image resources. I have had a digital camera for a few
years now and never tried to load my pictures onto my computer. Now I feel confident in trying this and might even load some pictures onto Flickr.
Working in a library I feel like I practice lifelong learning everyday, but this program has opened up a whole new world of Internet tools that will be helpful to me and library users.
Besides learning about all the cool stuff that you can do on the Internet, I told a friend (who does not work in a library setting) about my blog and now she wants to create her own blog and possibly try some of the 2.0 lessons. The fact that I knew something about the Internet that she did not know (and she's pretty Internet savvy) was an unexpected surprise!
I would like to continue the follow-up lessons so that I can become an Internet guru (like LB, BS & MM)--as if...!

eBooks
I can't wait to get my MP3 player! I've already chosen several titles I'd like to listen to. I was somewhat disappointed that there weren't more titles covering African-American fiction, though.
Podcasts
It was interesting to see and listen to the wide variety of podcasts out there on the Internet. I choose the podcast "Cruise News" to add to my Bloglines account so that I can receive tips and hints about cruising.
Creating library book review podcasts to share with patrons would be a way to market one of our best products. Podcasts could be developed to share computer hints/tips for patrons and so on....

YouTube
YouTube was a fun site to visit! Anyone can post a video about anything-and they do. I choose a video related to cruising. Imagine that! Libraries could use this site to posts training videos, videos of programs, tours, etc.

Web 2.0 Awards
I first went to the category "fun stuff" and found "cocktail builder". This site will tell you what kinds of drinks you can create with the alcohol you have on hand. It also gives you the ingredients of a particular mixed drink you want to make. Boy, will this site come in handy after a long day at work!
the other site I explored was under the category "health". Medstory is a searh engine that provides info on medical conditions. For a given medical condition, you can find a description, relevant drugs, procedures, clinical trials, personal accounts, etc. It even gives suggestions for refining one's search for better results. Neat! This would b great site for patrons

Zohowriter
This is just like using Word! Documents can be created, saved, accessed and shared by anyone you choose to share them with, on any computer. Fantastic! And it offers a wide selection of editing tools too! The fact that others can edit, add text, etc., adds a collaborative element to creating documents that could be very useful for libraries.

Wikis
I found the New Orleans conference wiki interesting. It was a great way for attendees to get other opinions about which programs were beneficial, which restaurants were worthwhile, etc.
I think the book lover's wiki would be a great way for a library to allow patrons to add their "2 cents" to book reviews.

L2
After going through the lessons so far, I can see the potential applications for Library 2.0.
L2 will allow patrons in the CC the capability to bookmark sites using Delicious, which they can't do now.
They would be able to add the library's website as an RSS feed which would allow them access to the library's website without going directly to the website. This would give them instant access to library news, information, programs, etc.
A library blog site could be created as another means to "electronically" connect with the public, sharing ideas, information, etc. Flickr could be used to present pictures of library events, programs, etc. on the blog.
All in all, L2 could be used as another means for the library to showcase their activities, interact and stay connected to those patrons who are strictly computer-driven.

Technorati
Wow! My blog can be located and searched through this site! Cool! I must say that I didn't find anything that surprising about my results in searching popular blogs, searches and tags, though.

Del.icio.us
This tool could be used to bookmark pages from our library website, such as Grant Center, BIC, Baby Brilliant, program calendar, etc. Also useful reference websites could be bookmarked using this application.

Above is the link to my searchrolls. With this tool, we could create a YPL search engine of useful reference websites that other librarians as well as patrons could use.

View some of the books I would like to read, but will probably never find the time. Library Thing is great! It could have so many applications for our library and patrons. In my opinion, this is the most library-relevant site I have viewed so far. Very interesting...

Image Generators
Image generators are fun tools. With some you have to be more creative. I picked one where the creative is built-in. You just enter a name and the generator generates! Have fun all you wanna be rap stars! http://rapstarname.com/index.php

Newsfeed Searching
The search tool I liked the best was Technorati, then Feedster. I found the Topix and Syndic8 a bit confusing. The feeds I found were not really unusual. I subscribed to a couple of news feeds, including the Vindicator, a stock feed, a recipe feed, a fashion feed and Unshelved (library humor), etc. I found some of my feeds by viewing a website and then deciding to subscibe to it at that point once I noticed the RSS symbol.
RSS comments
I think this is a very efficient way of quickly obtaining access to news and information that is important to an individual on a daily basis. I don't know that I would have a need to use it because I probably wouldn't make or take time to view the newsfeeds on a regular basis. The library could subscribe to some very popular newsfeeds for patrons to view on our website, like CNN for example.

New Technology
I found an article about a new product by Microsoft. It is a touch-sensitive Surface interface (tactile computing). It looks like a coffee table. There is no keyboard or mouse. You simply use your hand to browse, open and close computer files. How futuristic! Sorry, I know everyone wants to go out and purchase one now for a mere $5,000, but the device won't be available to the general public for another 5 years or so.
My creation
The tool that looked interesting to me was "Framer" from FD Toys. Check out the postage stamp I created. It is way cool!
